A new one rep max for Back Squats?

Today we attempted to find or beat our one rep max for our back squats. It was awesome and inspiring. I, for one, love a strength day, especially a one rep max strength day. I feel moved to tears watching our athletes dig deep and see what they are made of. Literally. Tears. I, myself, had the pleasure of working out with Coach Crow, Coach Tait, Ashleigh, Mona, Atenas and Kristin. Diego did a great job of taking us through the optimal position for the bar, how to rack, how to dismount and how to get the most out of every lift. I get so much out of taking classes taught by the other coaches and I love working out with other coaches. Talk about team building. I PR’d at 155lbs, although I believe that I could do more. It felt like “I got it” today, in a whole new way.

I really look forward to following Wendler’s 5 3 1 program and to seeing how my back squat improves. If you worked out today, get excited and crunch your #’s for next Tuesday when we begin wave 1.

Wave 1: take 90% of your 1 rep max back squat and do-

75% x 5

80% x 5

85% x 5

This will be the first of 4 waves that should help increase our 1 rep max!

20 min amrap
5 hang SNATCH 95/65
5 back squats5 behind the neck snatch-width push JERKS

5 O/H squats

Oh coaches…how do I say this…MY BUTT IS SORE!
